Corralejo

Corralejo Town is no longer a small fishing village but has become a very popular holiday destination, as well as a home to many residents. It has managed to retain its original charm in the old harbour area and has a splendid selection of bars and restaurants. The town beach is nestled in the old harbour with views to Lanzarote and the island of Lobos. To the east of the town are Kilometres of white sandy beaches with crystal clear turquoise water; a draw for water sports.

El Cotillo

El Cotillo is a small fishing village at the north of Fuerteventura, on the west coast. From Corralejo, it is 15 minutes by car, and from La Oliva, 10 minutes.

The village centres around two small harbours; the original harbour used mostly by local fishermen (and by local children for swimming), and the new harbour where boats are moored. There are a growing number of good bars and restaurants, and the views to the sea and beaches are stunning.

To the south lies the vast expanse of one of the best surf beaches on the island, and to the north you find the famous Lagoon beaches with golden sand and tranquil waters, ideal for bathing and young children. Some of the smaller coves towards the outskirts are also popular with naturists.

Just up from the new harbour is El Cotillo Tower (Toston in Spanish,) which is open to the public.  It was built as a defence against English pirates. In the tower you can find a Tourist Information Centre.

To the north of El Cotillo there is a lighthouse, the shoreline and sea views are breath-taking…

Villaverde

Villaverde, known locally as the ‘Beverly Hills of Fuerteventura’, is superbly situated in the north of Fuerteventura. A quiet village, it’s in an elevated position between Corralejo and the village of La Oliva. Over the years it has spread out, but remains mostly residential with a rural-feel. The island airport is within 35mins by car, Puerto del Rosario (the island capital) is within 25 mins, Corralejo (a bustling seaside resort) is within 10 mins reach, as is the beautiful fishing village and beaches of El Cotillo.

Villaverde is a charming Canarian village with all the amenities for a tranquil family life, or a place to relax away from the hussle and bustle of busy resorts, but close enough to enjoy them as well. Some properties are located with fabulous views across the sea to Lanzarote.

An agricultural museum opens from 10am until 6pm, Monday through to Saturday. There are also two well-preserved windmills standing boldly on a ridge. These windmills present a worthwhile photographic opportunity, and there are good views of La Oliva and Tindaya Mountain.

Lajares

Lajares is within 10 minutes of Corralejo (a bustling seaside resort) and 5 minutes reach of the beautiful fishing village and famous Surf and Lagoon beaches of El Cotillo.

As well as an impressive football ground, the town has a stadium for ‘Lucha Canaria’ a traditional and popular form of wrestling throughout the Canary Islands.

There are numerous very good restaurants, bars and bakeries offering traditional Canarian food as well as more contemporary international menus.

It is reported that many, many years ago, Lajares formed the coastline beach, hence the large amount of golden sand.

Caldereta

Caldereta is a small village in the municipality of La Oliva with its origins in agriculture and livestock in the area. It’s located on the eastern side of the island, with far-reaching views to the sea. It is close to La Oliva Village with the amenities that is has to offer.  The new motorway runs to the east, providing better, faster and more direct access to Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario.

Tindaya

Tindaya is a small, sprawling village with lots of open space for walking and mountain-biking, with spectacular views to the sea. It is close to La Oliva and only 20 mins by car from Puerto del Rosario (the island capital), 25 mins to the airport, 20 mins to Corralejo (a bustling seaside resort) and 15 mins from the beautiful fishing village and beaches of El Cotillo.

Dominating the landscape in Tindaya is ‘Montana de Tindaya’, a sacred place for the indigenous people of the island and where important archaeological remains have been found, such as ‘podomorphs’ which are carvings that represent the shapes of human feet. Take lunch with a superb view of the mountain at Restaurant Los Podomorfos de Tindaya.

Caleta de Fuste

Caleta de Fuste (El Castillo) is located 15 Km south of the capital city Puerto del Rosario. It is a newer, purpose-built holiday resort, having been developed since the 1990’s. There is a regenerated beach, small harbour and couple of Golf Courses. It is a popular holiday destination with plenty of bars, restaurants and good quality hotels.
